Dying Matters includes all the things that people like to organize about dying – funeral options, Burial/cremation, Wills, Power of Attorney, Advanced Care Plans, information to family about insurance and power accounts etc.
Dying Matters includes all the services that can help to make end of life pain free and comfortable. E.g. Needs assessors, mobility Aids, palliative care
Dying Matters also means caring for the bereaved after.
Dying Matters means dying is important, it matters, so we need to talk about it more.
Dying Matters means thinking about how we want to die. And what care we would want.
Dying Matters means facing the fear of death.
Dying Matters means looking after yourself and living well.
Dying Matters means Dying WELL matters. Let’s honour the process.
Lets talk about it about more.
Often the first step is that people realize that they need a Will. The second step is often about Power of Attorney, thinking about the people who will wrap up your affairs after you have gone. And making a list of accounts, passwords and information that will make things easier for the others. Thinking about belongings too.
At last, maybe you will think about yourself and look into an Advanced Care Plan so that someone has (in written form) what you would want if you become incapable and incapacitated. You might think about where and how you want it to happen.
And eventually, fear of death pops up. You may have beliefs that are comforting and also allow you to avoid the fear and there are plenty of other ways to avoid it, if you choose to.
But the magic happens when you confront this fear which may swirl around in your thoughts in your head, on repeat. Allowing the fear to be felt without doing anything with it, is respecting yourself and what is here. Uncomfortable – yes. Being true to you – yes.
