Counselling

My style of counselling involves listening deeply to you. You can talk about whatever is bothering you. I do not have a strict protocol about what we need to address.

You will be truly heard, probably like you have never been heard before, even as a child.

For some people, it can be scary to be heard and to hear themselves

In which case, we will proceed slowly and gently.

Maybe we will start with a simple guided meditation to support you to relax and feel okay about sharing. Just know, that it is entirely up to you how much you share. I will not pry open any secrets.

I will be interested in your thinking, especially the type and structure of your thinking. I will be interested in your emotions and the triggers. I will be interested in body sensations. I will be interested in the circumstances and how they affect you.

We will also review your childhood, especially your relationship with your mother and father. We might discover some old survival patterns that are still running. Many patterns originate back then. Patterns such as avoiding conflict, arguments and disagreements. Or needing to be responsible for how other feel. Or overthinking, trying to work out in great detail what a future situation will be like. Or hiding away to be safe. Or relying on substances to provide relief.

All the time, I will have a quiet mind – not making anything you say mean anything about you, an open heart – compassion and no judgement, and no personal agenda or trying to fix you. You don’t need fixing even when you feel like there is something wrong with you. I offer an opportunity to let go of restricting patterns so that your true self can shine.

We will also include a guided meditation, aka hypnotherapy, if this is okay with you.

Online Counselling

These 2 modalities are blended with others, such a psychotherapy, NLP, CBT along with deep listening and inquiry work, whether you come to see me at my home or whether we meet online.

Online sessions enable you to be comfortable in your own surroundings. We can still connect at a deep level online.

And all that I have said under the headings of Counselling apply to online sessions.

What happens in a session?

1. We begin with what is present

You do not need to arrive with the “right words” or a clear explanation. We begin with what is happening for you now.

2. You are deeply listened to

There is space to speak honestly, feel what is there and be met without judgement.

3. We explore the patterns underneath

Together, we may gently look at beliefs, emotions, memories or subconscious patterns that are influencing your current experience.

4. Hypnotherapy or guided inner work may be used

Where appropriate, Annette may use hypnotherapy, guided relaxation or inner inquiry to support deeper awareness and change.

5. You leave with more clarity

The aim is to help you feel more connected, calm and aware of your own inner truth.

What is the difference between counselling and hypnotherapy?

Counselling gives you space to talk, reflect and be heard. Hypnotherapy works more directly with subconscious beliefs, patterns and emotional responses.

Do I need to know what is wrong before I book?

No. You can arrive exactly as you are. Many people simply know they feel stuck, anxious, disconnected or ready for something to change.

Can sessions be done online?

Yes. Sessions are available online via Google Meet across New Zealand.

Are sessions available online?

Yes. Sessions are available online through Google Meet, so you can work with Annette from anywhere in New Zealand. Online sessions can still be personal, gentle and deeply supportive.

Where are in-person sessions held?

In-person sessions are available on the Kapiti Coast.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on what you are bringing and what kind of support you are looking for. Some people come for a few sessions, while others prefer ongoing support.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Hypnotherapy is a gentle, guided process. You remain aware and in control throughout the session.

What if I feel nervous about booking?

That is very normal. You are welcome to start by sending a simple message or booking a conversation to see whether it feels right.

Ready to begin?

You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. If something here resonates with you, you are welcome to book a session with Annette.

A first step can be simple. You can just say, “I’d like to talk.”
