Supervision and Mentoring
Regular supervision is about your job and your workplace. The supervision I offer addresses the other stuff – low confidence, communication, negative self-beliefs, speaking up at meetings, fear of authority, fear of failure, not tolerating making mistakes, judgement of others and self, ability to think clearly, decision making skills, anger management,
What supervision and mentoring entails
Most employers will pay for employees to have regular supervision as the aim is for the employee to become better at what they do. Some supervision is about the technical side of the job, the theory and application. This is not my role. But the issues that we address will mean that you are better at what you do.
During the session we address whatever issue you arrive with. We get specific about what is going on, including the circumstances, the thoughts about it, what emotions are triggered and even what is happening in your body. In other words, we look at the whole picture including how these issues show up in other areas of your life. And in the past.
We will define what you want, that is, what is your goal and what do you want to change and how you would like the change to look like.
Mentoring is the same as supervision.
I regularly have a session with my Leela School mentor. The difference is that I do not talk about the clients that I see, their issues or what I do in a session, which I could if it was supervision. My sessions are about my own development.
What happens in a session?
1. We begin with what is present in your work life right now
You do not need to arrive with the “right words” or a clear explanation. We begin with what is happening for you now, no matter how it comes out. You are welcome just as you are.
2. You are deeply listened to
There is space, safety and support to speak honestly, feel what is there and be met without judgement. I will have a quiet mind and an open, compassionate heart. I will not have a personal agenda or be trying to get you anywhere in particular. You will be able to identify what you want.
3. We explore the patterns underneath
Together, we may gently look at beliefs, emotions, body sensations, memories or subconscious patterns that are influencing your current experience.
4. Hypnotherapy or guided inner work may be used
Where appropriate, and with your permission, I may use hypnotherapy, guided relaxation and inner inquiry to support deeper awareness and change.
5. You leave feeling relaxed, at peace and with more clarity
You will feel more confident to be true to yourself, whether at work or at home. You will know that old patterns were useful when very young but they do not have to rule your life now.

"Useful for grounding myself and dealing with stressful situations calmly and confidently"
"I went to Annette feeling anxious about work and dealing with authority. We explored what had happened to me as a child and why I had issues with authority figures. Annette was relaxed and kind as we explored the emotions underlying my issues and she guided me through meditations. I learned NLP techniques which are particularly useful for grounding myself and dealing with stressful situations calmly and confidently"

What is the difference between counselling and hypnotherapy?
Counselling gives you a safe space to talk, reflect and be heard.
Hypnotherapy works more directly with subconscious beliefs, patterns and emotional responses.
Do I need to know what is wrong before I book?
No. You can arrive exactly as you are. Many people simply know they feel stuck, anxious, disconnected or ready for something to change.
Are sessions available online?
Yes.
Sessions are available online through Google Meet, so you can work with me from anywhere in the world.
Online sessions can still be personal, gentle and deeply supportive.
Where are in-person sessions held?
In-person sessions are available on the Kāpiti Coast, in my home, in Paraparaumu.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on what you are bringing and what kind of support you are looking for. Some people come for a few sessions, while others prefer ongoing support.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Hypnotherapy is a gentle, guided process. You remain aware and in control throughout the session. I will ask for permission and you can stop at any time.
What if I feel nervous about booking?
It is very normal. Please ask any questions you like. I can send photos of the setting if this helps. You can check out my YouTube channel videos where you can watch and listen to me. https://www.youtube.com/AnnetteCBurrell
